Kirkwood, Missouri
About the firm
We represent injured people, police officers and other first responders across greater St. Louis, from an office in Kirkwood. Most of our work arrives by referral, from former clients and from other lawyers.
How the office works
We tell you where your case stands, what comes next, and when a matter belongs with someone else.
How we work
The office is meant to work the way a neighborhood practice does: you talk to the lawyer handling your matter, and you get a plain answer. That describes how we work, not where our clients live.
Most of our work arrives by referral — from former clients, and from other lawyers who send us the matters they do not handle. We try to be worth the recommendation.
Three areas of work
Each carries its own deadlines, and they usually start running before anyone calls a lawyer.
- Personal injury An injury leaves a record in several places at once: the incident report, the medical chart, the insurer’s file. We gather those records and deal with the insurer.
- Workers’ compensation An injury at work sets two clocks running, one for notice to your employer and one for the claim itself. We watch both.
- First responder law Line-of-duty injuries move through pension and disability boards on their own schedule. We prepare those filings and appear at the hearings.
From officer to attorney
Brian Millikan joined the St. Louis City police department in 1994 and left the force for law school at Saint Louis University. One minute, in his own words, on where the practice comes from.
“I don’t think any of this needs to be more complicated than it is.”

Both sides of the table
After law school Brian spent his early legal career at Reinert & Rourke, defending insurance companies in construction and premises liability cases. So he has seen these cases from both sides of the table: he knows how an insurer values a claim, what its lawyers look for in a file, and where they expect an injured person to give up.
He opened this practice in 2006. Since then the work has been personal injury, workers’ compensation, and representing police officers and other first responders across the St. Louis area — handled in plain language, from the Kirkwood office.
